Travelling Exhibition of the Sixth International Exlibris Competition Varna financed by the 2025 "Creation and/or distribution - small projects" Programme of the National Culture Fund of Bulgaria

On 24 March the Yordan Petkov Art Foundation and Largo Gallery presented the traveling exhibition of the Sixth International Exlibris Competition Varna at the National High School of Plastic Arts and Design “Academician Dechko Uzunov” in Kazanlak.
"Exlibris is one of the most delicate and challenging manifestations of graphic art. The name comes from the Latin expression 'ex libris', which literally means 'from the books of...' or 'from the library of...'. Originating as a sign of ownership of a book, nowadays the term has gradually lost its utilitarian purpose and has become an independent artistic form – a small graphic composition that combines images, symbols and text. In the limitations of the miniature size, the bookplate concentrates a whole world of personal signs and cultural references, becoming a visual and aesthetic portrait – both of its owner and of the time that created it.
In Varna, in the last fifteen years, an active art scene has been formed around this specific graphic art, and Largo Gallery is its main driver. Since 2010, it has presented over forty-five events dedicated to graphics, and among them the central place is occupied by the International Exlibris Competition, which has gradually established itself as a significant event on the international graphic scene. More than 850 artists from all over the world have participated in the six editions of the competition, and more than 300 of them have been represented in the competition exhibitions. As a natural continuation of this activity, Largo Gallery and the Yordan Petkov Art Foundation also organise a traveling exhibition with a selection from the competition. Works from the compeition have participated in over 40 exhibitions in art schools, universities, community centers, museums and galleries across 14 Bulgarian cities. From its first edition until now, the competition has been implemented with the financial support of the Municipality of Varna through the National Culture Fund of Bulgaria. The traveling exhibitions of the competition in 2024 and 2026 were held with the financial support of the National Culture Fund."
